HTA Science and Engineering, Inc was started as a sole practitioner in 1988 and became a California Corporation in 2002. The Corporation is woman owned and is a Certified Small Business. The Corporation is guided by the Board of Directors. The Chairperson of the Board is Ramona Thompson, the Chief Financial Officer of HTA. The President of HTA is Dr. C. Hugh Thompson. Dr. C. Hugh Thompson has been associated with HTA from its beginning and has served as the Engineering Principal. Prior to the formation of HTA he served as an officer for 3 international environmental engineering firms (URS Corporation, Roy F. Weston, Law Engineering) developing and working on assignments from private and public clients. During his nearly 40 year professional career, he has created and lead environmental, health, and safety programs for Aerojet General Corporation, Battelle Memorial Institute, US Department of Transportation, US Environmental Protection Agency, UN Specialized Agencies, and Dow Chemical. He won his Doctorate in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Michigan, Virginia, Arizona and California. He is Board Certified in two specialties: Industrial Hygiene and Hazardous Waste Management, by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and a life member of: the American Water Works Association; American Society of Civil Engineers; and the Water Environment Federation. He was also accepted for membership in the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and the American Chemical Society. He is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers. Highlights of Dr. Thompson’s career that may be of interest include: Sherwood Lovejoy, Jr. has served as HTA’s Principal Geologist since 1999. His education at the University of Rhode Island, University of Maryland, University of San Francisco has been complemented with many assignments and responsibilities. He is a Professional Geologist in Tennessee and Wyoming and is a licensed well driller and general contractor in California. As a California Registered Environmental Assessor, he has planned and implemented many environmental investigations. His role in HTA is often as the Principal in investigations pertaining to underground fuel tanks and the associated soil and groundwater pollution. Projects in which his leadership is known and where Dr. Thompson and he have assisted clients include: Tolinda Thompson-Casillas joined HTA more than 10 years ago providing administrative assistance. With training as an Engineering Aide in the Corporation she is a Project Manager responsible for a wide variety of inspections, sampling, and reporting that includes groundwater, soil, mold, bacteria, particulates, organic and inorganic chemical vapors, asbestos, and lead. As a graduate of the University of the Pacific, her training in psychology has been also used by HTA to assist our clients that must deal with emotional and frightened occupants of homes and buildings. She has received advanced training and certifications from the McCrone Institute in Chicago as well as the Center for Occupational & Environmental Health, University of California – Berkeley. She is also a Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC). Significant project accomplishments include: Charles Thomas Thompson joined HTA in 2001 to provide support to field activities involving the implementation of designed corrective actions. His college level training in biology combined with home building experiences provided HTA with a skilled resource in the field required to implement and perfect HTA developed technologies. As an HTA Project Manager he deals with building investigations such as moisture intrusion sources, hidden space inspections, non-destructive removal of mold and bacteria. His skills in quickly locating problems and providing accurate field facts in report form, facilitates HTA’s ability to design rapid, efficient, and non-disruptive mitigation solutions. He gained valuable management and customer relations experience from work with Optometrists and management involving electrical equipment warehousing. He continues to add to his skills meeting the requirements of the Center for Occupational & Environmental Health at University of California – Berkeley in Lead investigations.
